After some freakishly strange weather, we seem to be on a somewhat even keel here on the homestead. From 80 degrees one day down to 26 overnight the following night, it looked a little dicey for plant survival. But, all’s well and our seedlings are recuperating even though they weren’t covered on that frosty night (cuz the forecast called for eight degrees warmer – jeez).
Hopefully, that was the last of the really cold weather. All the spring crops are now planted and growing. The last item on the list was three varieties of potatoes:
Since there’s never enough dirt here on the homestead, we’re using large grow bags to grow potatoes in. The bags are planted with Masquerade, a lovely purple and white-skinned potato and Kennebec. In a new growing area near the greenhouse, I’ve planted some Red Pontiac seed potatoes that I saved form last year’s harvest. Hoping for lots and lots of taters to sell and to eat!
