Planning for 2021

Time to start setting goals and planning for 2021.  Yeah, I know, any idiot knows that you have to start earlier than this.  And I have!  I’ve had a plan and a timeline in my head ever since we moved here five years ago.  Uhmmmm…. I just haven’t been very good at implementing that plan.  But not this year!  No sir!  I am going to GET IT DONE!!!  Gee, that sounds familiar — have I maybe said that before?!?

Yes, I have, but this year there’s a better than 50% chance that some of those goals will actually be reached.  Halleleujah!!!  Here’s what’s in the works:

We are moving away from selling produce and microgreens at a local farmer’s market and moving toward becoming a touring and teaching homestead.  That means your Happy Homesteader has actually run the numbers to find out what the most profitable crops are.  Turns out I can’t grow enough beans, cucs, squash, tomatoes and eggplants to make it worth selling at the market in the summer months.  Solution?  Do two markets in the spring when I have tons of salad greens and other early crops and take July, August and September off to work on the homesteading projects that never seem get done due to lack of time off (like spiffying this place up) so it can be opened for visitors.

And the second plan is to move away from growing microgreens to selling more Grow-Your-Own kits online.  Sort of a “make money while you sleep” plan.

The third plan is to start Farm-to-Table lunches and dinners.  A nearby friend is an outstanding caterer who we hope to partner with.  Easy soup and salad lunches even I can handle but… it’s probably a good idea to stay away from my cooking otherwise!

And last, as far as major changes go, we’ve started a Facebook page and a YouTube channel.  Yep, we’ve got it all set up under The Little Half Acre.  Nope, we haven’t posted any videos yet.  Kinda hard to hold a camera when one arm is in a cast.  Anyway there won’t be much to video before spring.  We’ll keep you posted on that.

So that’s the big 2021 push.  Anyone taking bets on what we actually accomplish?!?
