Happy New Year Everyone!\u00a0 I hope everyone has a happy and prosperous 2017!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n

How many resolutions have you made for the coming year?\u00a0 Lots?\u00a0 None?\u00a0 A few?\u00a0 It’s hard to keep resolutions (usually because we set the bar really high) and it’s something I don’t normally do since I almost always fall way<\/em> short of that bar.\u00a0 But not this year.\u00a0 This year is gonna be different.\u00a0 Yep, sure is.\u00a0 Yep, no problem. . . .<\/p>\n

Here are a few resolutions I’ve made for The Little Half Acre that Could –<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0Eat what we grow.<\/strong>\u00a0 Sounds easy, right?\u00a0 Actually, it’s much easier to pop a frozen pizza in the oven than to process fresh food from the garden, especially when you’ve spent the day outside doing hard labor.\u00a0 While we like salads, we don’t really want one for every<\/em> meal.\u00a0 So, for this haphazard vegetarian, that means involved menus, lots of cooking, dirty pots and pans, a messy kitchen, etc.\u00a0 But frozen pizza?\u00a0 Turn oven on, pop cheese pizza in.\u00a0 Done.<\/li>\n
  2. Work more, rest less.\u00a0<\/strong> Another DUH moment.\u00a0 I tend to get inspired, go outside and work like a bat out of Hell for eight hours straight hauling, building, watering, planting, etc.\u00a0 Then I spend the next three days sprawled on the couch with the tv on cuz I’m too tired or too sore to move.\u00a0 Think it might make more sense to work at a slower pace and more often?\u00a0 Yeah, I think so too.<\/li>\n
  3. Plan twice, work once.\u00a0<\/strong> Oh yeah, this is the BIGGIE for 2017.\u00a0 If you’ve been following this blog, then you know that most of the work accomplished so far on this little half acre homestead has developed through multiple (and, sometimes, multiple multiple) re-do’s.\u00a0 That’s because I didn’t think through some of our projects as I should have.\u00a0 Okay, to be fair, some of it was because I’m a “newbie” at all of this homesteading and permaculture stufff and I’m learning as I go.\u00a0 But, honestly?\u00a0 A whole heck of a lot of it was just cuz I wanted to get something DONE.\u00a0 As in, NOW.\u00a0 So, for 2017?\u00a0 Think before doing.\u00a0 Plan and then plan some more.\u00a0 We’ll check back on January 1st, 2018 to see how well we did.\u00a0 If we have the courage!!!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
