{"id":1137,"date":"2016-07-31T10:33:03","date_gmt":"2016-07-31T14:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelittlehalfacre.com\/staging\/?p=1137"},"modified":"2016-08-01T08:39:47","modified_gmt":"2016-08-01T12:39:47","slug":"correction-for-straw-bale-gardening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelittlehalfacre.com\/staging\/correction-for-straw-bale-gardening\/","title":{"rendered":"Correction for Straw Bale Gardening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oops!\u00a0 In an earlier post about <a href=\"http:\/\/strawbalegardens.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">straw bale gardening<\/a> I complained about having to water the bales every single day.\u00a0 For those of you who are thinking about trying this method, it occurred to me that I should point out that author Joel Karsten of the book Straw Bale Gardens Complete, recommends using drip hoses for daily irrigation.\u00a0 Here on The Little Half Acre I am on a very limited budget and I decided that I would just water by hand.\u00a0 Bad decision.\u00a0 Very bad decision.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, I&#8217;ve been really pleased with the results from my straw bale gardens.\u00a0 The tomato, pepper, squash, zucchini, basil and eggplant have all been producing well and and there&#8217;s an added benefit.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to get double the return from the expense of buying the bales because I will use the decomposing bales as the basis for soil in the terraced beds that we&#8217;ll create this fall.\u00a0 When I pull the bales apart now and look down inside them, I see lots of rich, black compost.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a fabulous bonus!<\/p>\n<p>Didn&#8217;t want to mislead anyone &#8212;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oops!\u00a0 In an earlier post about straw bale gardening I complained about having to water the bales every single day.\u00a0 For those of you who are thinking about&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_editorskit_title_hidden":false,"_editorskit_reading_time":0,"_editorskit_is_block_options_detached":false,"_editorskit_block_options_position":"{}","_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[24,25],"class_list":["post-1137","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-gardening","tag-straw-bale-gardening","tag-straw-bale-gardens"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 -
