Oh, you know, freezing tomatoes, freezing green beans, picking salads and strawberries and making spaghetti sauce. Yep, just another day here on The Little Half Acre that Could!
Let me just say that we’re really pleased with this year’s produce haul, especially considering what we started with. Hhmmm . . . what was it we started with again? Oh yeah, that’s right — rock! And clay. But mostly rock.
We’ve had several bumper crops from the garden. In fact, We’ve started eating fresh kale, mustard greens and spinach out of the fall garden but there’s still a ton of frozen kale, mustard greens and spinach in the freezer. And green beans. And tomatoes. And carrots. And, the compost pile is overflowing with the cucumbers I never pickled, the okra I just didn’t get around to cooking and some other goodies that seemed to taunt me with their ripeness.
Right now on The Little Half Acre we look a bit like the Beverly Hillbillies but, with so many projects in mid-stream and the last of the summer garden fading before the fall garden looks pretty enough for photos, there’s not much to show you. Photos to follow in the next post as soon as I clean up some of the “mess.” :
