Happy New Year Everyone! I hope everyone has a happy and prosperous 2017!!!
How many resolutions have you made for the coming year? Lots? None? A few? It’s hard to keep resolutions (usually because we set the bar really high) and it’s something I don’t normally do since I almost always fall way short of that bar. But not this year. This year is gonna be different. Yep, sure is. Yep, no problem. . . .
Here are a few resolutions I’ve made for The Little Half Acre that Could –
- Eat what we grow. Sounds easy, right? Actually, it’s much easier to pop a frozen pizza in the oven than to process fresh food from the garden, especially when you’ve spent the day outside doing hard labor. While we like salads, we don’t really want one for every meal. So, for this haphazard vegetarian, that means involved menus, lots of cooking, dirty pots and pans, a messy kitchen, etc. But frozen pizza? Turn oven on, pop cheese pizza in. Done.
- Work more, rest less. Another DUH moment. I tend to get inspired, go outside and work like a bat out of Hell for eight hours straight hauling, building, watering, planting, etc. Then I spend the next three days sprawled on the couch with the tv on cuz I’m too tired or too sore to move. Think it might make more sense to work at a slower pace and more often? Yeah, I think so too.
- Plan twice, work once. Oh yeah, this is the BIGGIE for 2017. If you’ve been following this blog, then you know that most of the work accomplished so far on this little half acre homestead has developed through multiple (and, sometimes, multiple multiple) re-do’s. That’s because I didn’t think through some of our projects as I should have. Okay, to be fair, some of it was because I’m a “newbie” at all of this homesteading and permaculture stufff and I’m learning as I go. But, honestly? A whole heck of a lot of it was just cuz I wanted to get something DONE. As in, NOW. So, for 2017? Think before doing. Plan and then plan some more. We’ll check back on January 1st, 2018 to see how well we did. If we have the courage!!!
Have a great year everyone, and thanks for following along on our blog!
